Summer Term

Our topic work this term will be ‘Movement’. We will be investigating magnets and springs, friction, Cardiff Bay, designing and making a moving vehicle, developing images and modelling effects on screen.
Information and artefacts, which would be useful:
We would be grateful if you have any interesting artefacts, photographs or books related to any of the above that we might borrow, or if you have any personal experiences or expertise in these areas, you might like to share with the class. Any internet research will be more meaningful to your child if it is restricted to pictures or materials specifically prepared for children.

Welcome

Welcome to the new Autumn Term

This term our topic is 'Materials'. We will investigate the characteristics of materials, keeping warm, textiles and the Romans. Any internet research will be more meaningful to your child if it is restricted to pictures or materials specifically prepared for children.

It would be really helpful if you could practise mental addition/subtraction, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables as well as the 6 and 7 times tables. Please help your child by testing and reciting the times tables in a fun way.

P.E. is on a Tuesday - all children need to bring their P.E. kit to change into for every lesson. Please make sure that the children bring a P.E. kit suitable for lessons in the hall and for outside as we will try to get outside as much as possible in the fine weather!

Homework will generally cover activities from Literacy and Numeracy lessons, however there may be pieces of homework relating to topic work.

Thank you for your support.

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!!

Happy New Year to you all!
I hope you enjoyed the Christmas break.

Here is some information that hopefully will enable you to support your child's learning at home.

Our topic this term is 'Movement'. We are going to be investigating magnets and springs, friction, Cardiff Bay, designing and making a moving vehicle, developing images and modelling effects on screen.

We would be very grateful if you have any interesting artefacts, photographs or books related to any of the above that we might borrow.

It would be helpful if you could keep practising your times tables and mental addition and subtraction (2, 5, 10, 3 and 4 times tables). Please help your child by testing and reciting the tables in a fun way. Don't forget to keep asking them to tell the time through everyday activities.

P.E. is still on a Wednesday. This term we will be practising, creating and performing for the Eisteddfod.

Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome back to school and your new class!

Croeso Dosbarth Chwech!

I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday!
Here is some useful information for you for the Autumn term 2010:

P.E. is on Wednesday so please bring your P.E. kit to change into.
The topic for this term is 'Changes'. We are learning about the 'Tudors' and also 'Rocks and Soils'. Thank you to all those who have brought in information and items about this topic - they have been very useful. The children thoroughly enjoyed their 'Tudor visit' in which they were given the opportunity to dress up in Tudor clothes, handle artefacts from this period and learn a Tudor dance!

It would be helpful if you could practise your 2, 10 and 5 times tables at home and go over telling the time - o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to - analogue and digital). The children have been working very hard with money this week which could possibly be put into practise in their everyday life.

Well done to you all for working hard and settling back in after your summer break.

Croeso Dosbarth Chwech!

Welcome to our class blog.

I hope parents and children had a lovely Christmas and I'd like to wish you all a happy new year.

Our topic work for the Spring term will include learning about:

  • The Celtic (and Roman) period
  • The Earth, Moon and Sun
  • Electricity and Light

I would be grateful if you have any interesting artefacts, photographs or books related to any of the above that we might borrow, or if you have any personal experiences or expertise in these areas, you might like to share them with the class. Any internet research will be more meaningful to your if it is restricted to pictures or material specifically prepared for children.

It would be helpful if you could practise mental addition/subtraction, 3, 4 and 6 times tables (keep practising the 2, 5 and 10!) and telling the time. Please help your child by reciting tables in a fun way. We will be focusing mainly on numbers to 1,000, learning to count on/back and investigating patterns, sequences and ordering.

Remember to read as much as possible. Ask questions such as "why did he do that?" or "what do you think happens next?" would help children in understanding text and aid comprehension work.

P.E. is on Wednesday so please remember to bring your kit.

Thank you for your support.
